Edit// Going to have a cat-scan and a full blood panel on Friday
I don't know how many of my friends and watchers know, but I suffer from Psoriasis and Psoratic Arthritis. Currently, my neck and shoulders are the worst. I can't properly convey just how seriously damaged I am. I have close to zero mobility on my left side, most of the muscles are frozen and atrophied. My neck is almost two inches off center due to the trauma. I have very minimal mobility oh my right side. It's better than the left but not by much. The arthritis also affects my wrists, knees, and every other joint I have. I've been living with this for 11 years now, almost 12.
I've been to a slew of chiropractors, most have left me feeling worse than when I went in or just wouldn't treat me at all based on how I bad my case was. I've never been properly diagnosed, but it doesn't take a genius to figure this one out.
So here's where today's story begins.
A new chiropractic clinic moved in to town and my aunt went to see him. Said he was great. However, I take everything my aunt says with a whole bottle of salt. She's not too bright when it comes to doctors and, since she found him, would want to take credit for anything he did (which she did today after I got home T.T). So I had an apt today along with my grandfather.
Turns out, this guys is a hoot and super, super nice. He walked us through everything, took his time explaining and was just too funny. I got xrays of my spine... Boy, I was expecting something but this... I'm not shocked really by what I saw. I am relieved though, to see the damage and get a real idea of where I am atm.
I have two fused vertebrae, let's just say they are happily married and leave it at that. The first vertebrae has a small calcification attaching it to the second (which is fused to the third) and it is likely that calcification will break throughout treatment. It's not suppose to be there and I think he's aiming for it to break and release the vertebrae. It's going to be painful. He said so several times. A few vertebrae down are some with little 'wings' on the ends. On the left side of my neck, two of the those wing are touching, couldn't tell if they, too, were fused, but without any intervention they will be sooner rather than later.
I also have an odd, benign, calcification in my neck (right side) and a less benign calcification around my thyroid. Which, I've thought for a while now I might have some issues with. My mother had thyroid cancer and had it removed about a year or so ago. So, I'll be getting a full blood panel taken to see what's going on. Calcium, the one substance in you body that should NEVER be high.
The portion of the spine we could see was doing this whole weird S thing. It's not aligned, not even close.
We didn't talk surgery, not yet, I don't even think I'm good enough for surgery right now. Too messed up. So we're going to work on getting motion first and trying to work out some of the kinks. The arthritis is everywhere, my poor lower back, I didn't realize just how locked up I was. Just about nothing in my neck will move. If you've never had an adjustment or been to a chiropractor it's hard to grasp what this is like. But having someone pulling on your head is just weird. He was gentle though, I would have been crying or passed out from the pain otherwise.
However, he's coming up with a game plan for me and I'll be seeing him twice a week. Here's hoping, but this is another reason why I wont be here. I'm so tiered and sore from just one visit. So much information (and 4+ hours in the office + hospital trip for xrays).
But, I'm actually quite hopeful, if not a bit wary. Going to nap it all off though~ *waves*
Crosses your fingers and toes for me, let's hope this will proved much needed relief!
P.S> The x-rays were creepy. I'm thinking of making a collage and sticking it on my door for Halloween >3
